As the rain began to fall this morning, I was reading Ko Un. I couldn't help but notice this pine tree outside my window.
One day
there was no one I could ask the way
so I set off
where a long pine branch was pointing
and found that the right direction
*
A thousand drops
hanging from a dead branch
The rain did not fall for nothing
--Ko Un
from Flowers of a Moment
Ko Un? I haven't heard that name for years..... A girl I dated (such an intellectual), loved Him. Didn't He change and revise some of His prose in later years?

Kirk--
I don't know. I just discovered Ko Un last week, so I am not familiar with his past work at all. His life story is incredible--he was imprisoned and tortured for his political activism and opposition to the military dictatorship in Korea.
I loved Flowers of a Moment. It was so fitting that it arrived this week--along with the rain.
